What I wanted to achieve
In my front cover I was aiming to make it look as professional as possible, I was hoping to do this by having:
- MCU (a Medium Close Up)
- Cover line
- Masthead
- Date
- Issue Number
- Bar Code
- Price/Free
- Made of Photoshop
I feel that I have achieved some of these in the following ways; I have added a medium close up of a student at my college, I have several coverlines on the front cover as well as, a colourful masthead that stands out. Furthermore, I have an issue number above the bar code along side the "Free" label. I further added a QR code scan with the label "Scan for exclusive content", if I was given more time i would have been able to provide you with the exclusive content, due to this I added any QR code from google. Finally, I added logos of social media websites that I would make the magazine available on, and display exclusive content.
Furthermore in my contents page I was aiming to make it look as professional as possible and enhance my skill using Photoshop and InDesign. I hoped to this by including;
- Images
- Page numbers
- Editors letter
- Title
- Colour
I feel that I have achieved the criteria as my magazine has a contents page, with several images of students working, page numbers displayed by the side of the titles of the articles that would be featured in my magazine. I also added a simple title to the contents page, and I made the colour blue. I also made the writing blue, but a different shade. Finally, I added logos of different social media platforms on the contents page but removed them and replaced them onto the front page as I thought it made more sense for it to be there as it would be more visible on the front page. After, showing this edition to my teacher, it was pointed out to me that I didn't include an editors letter which I added immediately after.
Correlation between Draft and Final
For my front page I have kept to the plan in the following
ways; as I have kept the title the same and the cover lines, I also kept the
bottom of the page the same by having the bar code their but I moved the “Free
Magazine” label next to the “Issue 1” as it was illegible in the other place I
wanted to put it, this was due to the colour of the background image. Furthermore,
I decided to add logos for twitter, Instagram and Facebook. I did this because
it would allow the readers to know the magazine is on a multi-platform level.
For my contents page I have kept to the plan as I have used
the same font for the title and have used the same colour. Also, I have used
the same names on the contents page in order to allow for me to use them as
cover lines. However, I didn’t make my plan as detailed as I should have. This
has affected my work as I had to spend a lot off time thinking about the
colours I am going to use and how they contrast each other. Furthermore, I have
added images to my contents page which differs from my draft as I thought it
would make it look better. I also added an editor’s note to make it look more
professional.
Feedback (Peer Evaluation)
For my front page I was told that I had a good layout and really good image, but, a lighter colour would make it more eye-catching. Also, I was told my cover line was good as it was short and to the point. Finally, I was told the image I used for the front cover looked professional.
To improve it further I was told, the writing was not very visible and that I should change it. I was also told, to change the font as it took away from the professionalism of it. For my contents page, I was told that it was good, and had a good layout but it was significantly let down by the fact that it was plain due to the lack of background to it.
