DPS - Progress

This is the first draft of my DPS. You can see some of the questions I was going to ask the artist. I later developed it to have more information.

What is your biggest inspiration?
There are many things that inspire me, so it’s difficult to pinpoint one in particular. But, it would have to be my life experiences; the things I have seen, things I want to see and songs I have heard.

What is your proudest accomplishment?
Releasing an album. Without a doubt my greatest accomplishment. It was just such a magnificent experience from; the photo shoot, recording all those songs and all the interviews. It’s just amazing.

What do you consider to be your best and worst traits?
My best trait would have to be my optimism. I’m always try to look for the best in people and things. When a situation doesn’t work out, you have to look at what you did well and just improve in that. I can honestly say that without my optimistic, I wouldn’t be here right now.
As for my worst trait, I tend to get too obsessive and I end up alienating everyone around one around me.
When I was writing my first song, I spent a whole day just working… no breaks. That song ended becoming my debut song.

What are some of your bad habits?
When I get nervous I bite my nails. So, if you ever see me biting them… you’ll know why.

What would you change about yourself, if you could?
I would try to be less obsessive when I’m doing things, like cleaning or working. Because when you have an OCD for perfection it can be a little annoying, even if you had it all your life. I would like a break from it.

What are your expectations for your tour?
Well, all the tickets sold out in the first week… so I guess that’s a good sign. How many new artist sell out theri tour in the first week? None. I just don’t want to make a mistake while I am live on stage.

If you could travel back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
Hold on! I wouldn’t tell my younger self anything because it’s my mistakes that have brought me. Learning from them and growing into the man I am now.
Instead I would travel to the past and watch one of the first live performances of Fall Out Boy (the greatest band of all time).

Are your parents proud of what you do?
Initially, they were a little sceptical of the idea of me trying to success in music. But, I knew there was only a 1% chance I would succeed, and that was good enough for me. Even though my parents voiced their concern they were always supportive of me.

Contents Page - progress

24/11/15 - This is the current design for my contents page. I am hoping to add details under the titles i have written. This will consist of page numbers any an idea of what i will write for it. I will also add a second image in the empty space in the top left. I originally had the image with a contrasting colour, I dealt with this by using editing the image in photoshop and removing any background from it.
The image in the bottom left corner has the outline of it blurred.

25/11/15 - This is the updated design, where I have added the box that advertises the subscription deal. I also decided on adding an editor's note. This is because it makes the magazine look more professional.

Front page

This is the current draft of my front cover. I hope to receive feedback and further improve my cover page. I have included links to the magazine's social media  sites. I have also added some coverlines and a puff.

Front page - progress

This is the progress I have made so far on my front page, during this lesson I originally added another photo where he wasn't looking at the camera and it was in black and white. It was pointed out to me that it wouldn't be appropriate to use as it is not generally used. I used this image instead as it has colour and he is looking directly into the camera. this is needed as the eyes draw the reader in. Also, my model's name is Khuram Bashir and I thought that it would be best if I used his initials instead of his full name - K.B.

This is the rough plan for my call sheet, this is supposed to contain all the key information that is need. However, it is still missing a few details. and some of the details are incorrect as they will change when I do the photo shoot with my model.

Plan for Magazine

This is roughly what the front cover of the magazine will look like,as you can see it is a very rough design of what it will look like. I hope to keep to this design, but the image on the background may force me to change the arrangement of some images i=to make it more visible and appealing.

This is the draft for the contents page, i will be adding more information in the real design to make it more eye catching and professional.

Music Magazine Presentation - Task 7

This is my presentation on my Music magazine. During the presentation I used the slideshare presentation I created to help show my ideas, it was useful as I had forgot some of what I was saying and it helped to clearly explain certain point. This included things like the logo I had created, it was easier to show the drafts rather than just explain them. Overall, I feel that my presentation was good. From my pitch I received feedback relating to the publisher and why they would want my magazine. I explained that my magazine mixes two genres and it as a ver unique selling point, which is that each issue will be specific to an artist or band.

Studio Induction

In today's lesson we learnt the basics of the studio, we learnt that the F-stop, shutter speed, ISO and white balance are the most important things when shooting something. The F-stop is supposed to be set at 3.5 as it is the ideal exposure level, this can be control manually by turning the dial on the top left or right side of the camera to M. The shutter speed should be set at 60th and the ISO should be 100 - 200. The white balance will be on flash so it can create light in the shot. This can be further controlled with reflector. We were using the Bowen flash kit which had two lights to control the brightness. A soft box was placed on each of them to diffuse the light. Another light that was used was the snoot, this is a directional light that is used to create a distinct separation between the object and the background. This means that object will appear to be more three dimensional.

 In the studio a three point lighting system was used; the key light was directed onto the subject so you can see them, the feel light was used to make the whole scene brighter, and finally the hairline light was used to separate the subject from the background.

During the introduction we were reminded that the camera should be used in portrait so it can be used for the front cover, contents page, and the DPS. The teacher explained that the simple movement of making the camera sideward, would change the orientation and therefore make the whole magazine look more professional. If the image was taken in landscape it wouldn't fit on to the cover and would therefore need to be cropped and resized. This would make the image look distorted and unprofessional. finally, the lens are extremely expensive and it has different setting modes you can set it to; AF, A and M. We were told that it was best to leave it on A or AF as it would mean it would auto focus.
